(hello friends, here are adapted excerpts from a book I started writing 30 years ago on Kundalini)
Some people ask me how to start with the awakening of Kundalini. I answer that what you need to start with must be continued your entire life…
Here is what must be maintained.
The body, the heart and the mind must be constantly prepared for the coming and the consequent rising of the inner fire.
The body is prepared via the right nutrition, physical exercise and control of the body. You must be responsible for all things related to your body, including how the energy flows through it and how it behaves. It must become a vessel that generates abundant sums of positive energy and you must learn where you lose energy and prevent this. Kundalini is less likely to rise easily (but accidental awakenings are always possible) in a body that is not ready for it.
The mind is prepared through an inner cleaning. Meditation is the way here. I recommend Vipassana meditation in particular and the understanding of the deep meanings behind the words of authors like Krishnamurti. Kundalini is less likely to rise in the body of someone that has not cleaned up their house.
The heart is prepared by doing acts of love and kindness every day. Do you do charity/volunteer work? Hospitals around the world are in need of volunteers to help the sick. This is just one type of volunteer work that could be done. Are there homeless people around your home? Why not spend some time to just listen to them a few times a week? This is too much for you? How about simply coming to work with treats for everyone? Give. Give. Give. Be creative in how you give. But mostly, learn to love giving… 🙂 Kundalini is love and you when you give, you are love itself. Kundalini is almost sure never to rise along the spine of a selfish person.
These things must come first and always be continued throughout your life :
- Proper complete, PH-balanced nutrition,
- proper exercise: flexibility exercises (hatha yoga), and slight muscle building exercises for hormones levels and good metabolic rate,
- mindfulness during the day everywhere you go,
- meditation&prayer at night/morning,
- random acts of love throughout the day,
- contact with real masters. One relatively easy way to achieve this is through the ability of doing out-of-body experiences. Once there, you can actually see if a master has really awakened Kundalini or if he/she is lying to you.
Then we can talk about exercises for Kundalini wich is one more element in the above list…
These steps are just part of the path that can lead to a graceful awakening of Kundalini. Hopefully, I will have a course on each of these topics and the writings finished soon.
Kundalini is your own sexual energy. Lifted, upgraded, changed, sublimated. This is why it is often compared to a snake. But not just any snake. One that was raised on the cross (like Moses in the desert). One that has wings and flies far above the ground. A transmutated sexual energy made sacred. This is why the name of the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl means “winged snake”. This is why you must learn to master your body and your senses. You must learn how to keep and channel your own sexual energy.
Here are a few words on how to channel this energy in various ways. In another post, I will write the next steps.
Many things naturally channel this energy. Feeling blissful before anything beautiful will send large streams of this energy along the spine. Doing acts of kindness and love also channels this energy. Doing creative work, like painting, composing music, writing poems, etc channel this energy. Praying and feeling enraptured in the love for God will channel this energy. Simply being happy for a higher reason, after doing something good for you or others, will transmute your energy.
Ever felt shivers going up your body in front of something beautiful? You were then actually feeling a manifestation of this energy flowing through you. You transmuted (transformed) your sexual energy into divine energy through love for beauty.
This all means you can channel this energy all day long… No need to sit down and do one specific yogic exercise…
But yes, there are many yogic exercises to channel your own sexual energy.
Pranayama (प्राणायाम prāṇāyāma) is a Sanskrit word meaning “extension of the prana or breath” or more accurately, “extension of the life force”. The word is composed of two Sanskrit words, Prana, life force, or vital energy, particularly, the breath, and “āyāma”, to extend, draw out, restraint, or control. You could even say Prana is the sexual energy of the universe, present in us and outside of us. It is comparable to the Chinese notion of Qi. Control of the breath can lead to a greater control of the flow of your inner prana.
Learn a few pranayama exercises like the well-kown ” Nadi Shodhana Pranayama” or alternate nostril breathing
Swami Sivananda wrote an important book entitled The Science of Pranayama. He says: “There is an intimate connection between the breath, nerve currents, and control of the inner prana, or vital forces. Prana becomes visible on the physical plane as motion, and action, and on the mental plane as thought. Pranayama is the means by which a yogi tries to realize within his individual body, the whole cosmic nature, and attempts to attain perfection by attaining all the powers of the universe.”
This is all for now.

==================================
Excerpts from a prayer from The Mettā Sutta:
May all beings everywhere,
Seen and unseen,
Dwelling far off or nearby,
Being or waiting to become:
May all be filled with lasting joy.
Just as a mother with her own life
Protects her child, her only child, from harm,
So within yourself let grow
A boundless love for all creatures.
Let your love flow outward through the universe,
To its height, its depth, its broad extent,
A limitless love, without hatred or enmity.
Then as you stand or walk,
Sit or lie down,
As long as you are awake,
Strive for this with a one-pointed mind;
Your life will bring heaven to earth.
